To become global, GBIF needs to establish the network of connections to support the community of different regions. The support of different languages helps to overcome possible barriers. This project aimed and achieved the goal of ensuring that the fundamental set of documents for the establishment of at national biodiversity information facility become available in Portuguese.

This project also aimed at promoting GBIF among the community of Portuguese-speaking countries in Africa. This was achieved by promoting workshops or seminars, in the full involvement of
national organisers and institutions, in three of the PALOP countries: Angola, Guinea-Bissau and Mozambique.

GBIF Portugal translated a total of 12 documents (six manuals and six promotional materials) into Portuguese. These are or will become available soon for the international community through GBIF.org.
