The diversity of Bovista Pers. (Lycoperdaceae, Basidiomycota) species in Russia is presented. The specimens examined were obtained from official mycological herbaria (LE, VLA, KEM, MAG, NSK, PRM), the author`s personal mycological collection (YuR) and some specimens are duplicated in K. In total, 474 specimens of 16 species are presented. There are: Bovista acuminata (Bosc) Kreisel, B. aestivalis (Bonord.) Demoulin, B. altaica Rebriev & I.A.Gorbunova, B. cretacea T.C.E.Fr., B. disciseda Rebriev & I.A.Gorbunova, B. furfuracea Pers., B. graveolens Schwalb, B. helenae Rebriev, B. hollosii Jeppson, Finy & E.Larss., B. limosa Rostr., B. nigrescens Pers., B. paludosa Lév., B. plumbea Pers., B. pusilla (Batsch) Pers. sensu Larsson et al., B. subcatastoma Rebriev & I.A.Gorbunova, B. tomentosa (Vittad.) De Toni. Among these, the recently described species, Bovista altaica, B. disciseda, B. helenae and B. subcatastoma, are only known from Russia (Rebriev & Dvadnenko 2016; Rebriev et al. 2017). Furthermore, some of these species are very rare and only known from a few localities (e.g. Bovista cretacea, B. limosa and B. pusilla ss. Larsson et al.). More extensive results published in Rebriev et al., 2020.Purpose
In order to help fungal diversity researchers of Russia vast area, we provide a data to occurrence and ecology of species Bovista.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The specimens examined were obtained from mycological herbaria (LE, VLA, MAG, KEM, NSK), the author`s personal mycological collection (YuR). In addition, some foreign collections (KW, AA, LG, PRM) were also examined for reference. In total, 610 specimens were studied. The metadata contains information about 474 specimens collected in Russia since 1901 and reliably identified.Sampling
The specimens examined were obtained from official mycological herbaria (LE, VLA, KEM, MAG, NSK, PRM), the author`s personal mycological collection (YuR) and some specimens are duplicated in K. The examination of microstructures under the light microscope Mikmed-6 (LM) was made after boiling the tissue for a short time in lactophenol Cotton Blue. Scanning electronic microphotographs (SEM) were taken with a Carl Zeiss EVO-40 XVP scanning electron microscope in the South Science Center RAS Center of Collective Use (No. 501994). Microscopic measurements were made using the program Scandium 5.0. Macro and micro photographs were taken using the equipment of the Core Facility Center “Cell and Molecular Technologies in Plant Science” at Komarov Botanical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences. Species identifications were mainly based on Kreisel (1967), Moyersoen & Demoulin (1996), Larsson et al. (2009) and Jeppson (2018).Method steps

Geographic Coverages
Russia is the largest country in the world, covering more than one-eighth of the earth's inhabited land area. Different vegetation zones reflecting climate differences change from north southwards, from Arctic tundra to coniferous forest (taiga), mixed and broad-leaf forests and grassland (steppe) to desert. Such ecological conditions potentially harbor a high level of biodiversity. Indeed, the diversity of gasteroid basidiomycetes of Russia numbers more than 250 species, including the preliminary diversity of Bovista resulting from morphological studies (Rebriev & Dvadnenko 2017).
