This dataset contains occurrences of 24 out of 28 invasive alien plant species recorded from Nepal. The occurrence data were collected through field surveys including road/trail survey and vegetation sampling in various localities of Nepal at different times from 2013 to 2018. The occurrence records of this dataset were previously used in preparation of a research article (Climate change amplifies plant invasion hotspots in Nepal) published in journal Diversity and Distribution journal (DOI: 10.1111/ddi.12963; https://onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/full/10.1111/ddi.12963). For the collection of the occurrence records, financial supports were obtained from International Foundation for Science (Grant number: 5306-1), Italy; Nepal Academy of Science and Technology (NAST), Nepal; National Trust for Nature Conservation (NTNC), Nepal.Sampling Description
Study Extent
Roadside survey throughout Nepal; additional trail survery and vegetation sampling in central and western Nepal.Sampling
Occurrence of target species (i.e. invasive alien plant species) were recorded by the researchers using hand held Global positioning sytem (GPS) receiver.Quality Control
Data collectors were either invasive species expert or well trained graduate researchers. Pre-defined list of invasive plant species were used during the survey to ensure correct identifications.Method steps
- The data set represent entire country Nepal which is located between China and India in South Asia. The country is located at the center of Himalayan Biodiversity Hotspot. The country is characterized by a diverse topography and climate (near tropical to nival/polar) with arguably the widest elevation gradent (<60 m to 8,8848 m asl). With geographic area of 147,181 sq km, the country has esimated >6000 species of flowering plants.
