Quality Control

The records included in this dataset are from surveys and monitoring undertaken by RSPB trained staff and volunteers with an internal verification process in place and are therefore assumed to be of a high standard.

Method steps

1. Standard breeding bird surveys undertaken by RSPB staff and volunteers on an annual basis and summary data entered into a standardised form. The standard method used will vary across reserves according to the species and habitat.

RSPB reserves across the whole of the UK. Please note that each record is mapped as a central point for the reserve it is on, and may be located outside the actual reserve boundary depending on the shape of the reserve or if the reserve consists of several unconnected areas. RSPB reserve boundaries are available on the NBN as a spatial dataset.
