A dataset of zooplankton occurrence in rice field sediment based on hatching resting eggs

Study Extent

All zooplankton species were recorded on 30 May 2019 based on hatching resting eggs collected from RF–NPA and RF–PA, Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Thailand.

Sampling

Sediment samples were collected from two rice fields in Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Northeastern Thailand. The hatching experiment was conducted for 30 days. All zooplankton samples were identified and counted under a compound light microscope. The occurrence of zooplankton in each rice field was recorded.

Quality Control

Identification to species level focused on rotifers and cladocerans following the identification keys of Segers (1995), Smirnov (1996), Nogrady and Segers (2002), and research papers (e.g., Sinev (2016). Other identification references were provided in the dataset.

Method steps

1. 1. Sediment samples were collected from RF–NPA and RF–PA on 14 October 2018. 2. The hatching experiment was conducted from 26 April 2019 to 20 May 2019. 3. All zooplankton species were documented and their locations were recorded. 4. Scientific names of zooplankton were validated.

The RF−NPA (Rice Field Non–Pesticide Application) and RF−PA are located in Phimai District, Nakhon Ratchasima Province, Northeastern Thailand. These two rice fields (15°10′55.1″N, 102°23′46.7″E (RF–NPA), and 15°10′45.0″N, 102°23′46.1″E (RF–PA)) are located 146 m above sea level. This resource contains 33 occurrence records of 16 zooplankton species.
