Moths observed during the "Objective 1000" inventory project at the Botanical Garden Jean Massart (Auderghem, Brussels Capital Region)

Study Extent

This inventory of the entomofauna of the Jean Massart Botanical Garden ( 5.2 ha in size) has been carried out over the period 2015-2021.

Sampling

The inventory of the site began in 2013-2014 with preliminary censuses organized by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (KBIN) and was limited to two beetle families: the Cerambycidae and the Curculionidae, to establish the importance of the site with some well known groups. In 2015, the "Objective 1000" project was launched in collaboration with Bruxelles Environnement, with the goal of identifying 1000 species of insects and spiders on the site. For this project, in addition to traditional counts such as direct observation, dragging the herb layer and the use of a beating screen, benefited from the prospecting permits from Brussels Environment, which allowed us to use several other collection methods such as light traps (inc. night traps, at 5 differents spots within the garden).
