This dataset comes from the 'objective 1000' project, in which the entomofauna of the Jean Massart Botanical Garden was studied during the period 2015-2021. The aim of this project was to inventory 1000 species of insects and spiders on the site. In addition to traditional censuses such as direct observation, dragging the herb layer and the use of a beater screen, the use several other collection methods such as light traps has been possible, thanks to the involvement of Brussels environment. This checklist and associated occurrences focus on the moths (lepidopetera) species observed during this site inventory.

Sampling Description
Study Extent
This inventory of the entomofauna of the Jean Massart Botanical Garden ( 5.2 ha in size) has been carried out over the period 2015-2021.Sampling
The inventory of the site began in 2013-2014 with preliminary censuses organized by the Royal Belgian Institute of Natural Sciences (KBIN) and was limited to two beetle families: the Cerambycidae and the Curculionidae, to establish the importance of the site with some well known groups. In 2015, the "Objective 1000" project was launched in collaboration with Bruxelles Environnement, with the goal of identifying 1000 species of insects and spiders on the site. For this project, in addition to traditional counts such as direct observation, dragging the herb layer and the use of a beating screen, benefited from the prospecting permits from Brussels Environment, which allowed us to use several other collection methods such as light traps (inc. night traps, at 5 differents spots within the garden). For a more detailled view on the study design, it is explained in De Prins et al., 2022.Method steps
- had hoc, light traps and other types of observations are gathered into raw files
- Compiling observations and extracting Moth related occurrences
- Transformation to Darwin Core and GBIF publication
