Description
BNHS is one of the oldest scientific organizations in India, working for nature conservation since 1883. Our primary goal is to spread awareness about nature through science-based research, conservation advocacy, education, scientific publications, nature tours, and other programs. Natural history collections that tell of great scientific discoveries in the Indian subcontinent, dating back to the 19th century, occupy pride of place in the Hornbill House. There are over 18,500 mammals, 29,000 birds, 5,430 bird eggs, over 8,500 amphibians and reptiles, 50,000 insects and 5,000 other taxa, which are regularly referred to by wildlife researchers and amateur naturalists from India and abroad. This year, we have started the process of digitizing the Collections, which will make them more accessible and help in their conservation.Contacts
