diagnostic
Flat dorsal surface with nearly invisible dorsal ribs. Upper aperture lip is truncated. Caudal spine is long and straight. Moderately vaulted ventral side. Growth lines and transversal ribs are not distinct. Aperture shape is trapezoid in shape. [van der Spoel, 1976]
distribution
A warm-water species. It is distributed in the Atlantic (from 51° N to 32° S), Indian (almost everywhere in the tropics, the Great Australian Gulf), and Pacific (south of 40° N, Kuroshio, Hawaiian Islands, Nasca ridge, New Zealand) oceans, and in the Mediterranean Sea. [Bate, 1861].
