discussion
REMARKS Henri Milne Edwards (1853) described this species based on the material collected by Webb & Berthelot who are well known for their exploration of the Canary Islands where they have gathered a considerable amount of material of all kinds (see Appendix). In their masterpiece “ Histoire naturelle des îles Canaries ”, the part Crustacea has been authored by G. A. Brullé, and this crab was identified as Grapsus strigosus by Brullé (1839: 15), before it was recognised as new by H. Milne Edwards, (1853: 133 [167]) and dedicated to Webb, then synonymised to Grapsus adscensionis (Osbeck, 1765).
