Description

In 2014, the Dutch water boards collaborated with the Netherlands Food and Consumer Product Safety Authority and FLORON (Dutch Floristic Research Society) on an iPhone app designed to collect individual observations of invasive water plants. There are currently 13 species that can be recorded in the app, all of which also feature in the Voluntary Agreement Water Plants. The app has 2 objectives: to facilitate maximum data collection (monitoring) of invasive water plants in Dutch waters and enable water boards to combat these plants as soon as these are reported. The app shows photos that help the user determine which of the 13 species they saw. These species are also noted in the Invasive Water Plants field guide published by the NVWA.
