The data on the fauna and distribution of Bivalvia in the Malyi Yugan River basin (Western Siberia, Tyumen Region) are given. The aquatic malacofauna of this territory has not been studied previously. In 2013-2014, the Malyi Yugan River as well as seven its tributaries, two connected water bodies, seven floodplain lakes and a single moraine lake have been sampled. As a results, a list of 18 species of bivalves belonging to 6 genera of families Sphaeriidae and Unionidae, as well as data of mollusks distribution are provided.Sampling Description
Study Extent
The material was collected during three expeditions to the Malyi Yugan River basin. In total, about one hundred quantitative and qualitative samples were taken, in which 1557 bivalves were found.Sampling
The mollusks were collected using standard methods— a hydrobiological scraper and a Petersen sampler, as well as directly by hand.Method steps
- From 3 to 5 samples were taken at each section of a waterbodyes or watercourses using a Petersen sampler. Qualitative samples were also taken there with the help of a hydrobiological scraper. Only quality samples were taken at a number of waterbodyes and watercourses.
- Subsequent processing of the material was carried out in the laboratory in accordance with the recommendations (Karataev et al., 1990; Gloer, Meier-Brook, 2003; Starobogatov et al., 2004).
- Species were identified using taxonomic keys (Korniushin, 2001; Gloer, Meier-Brook, 2003; Piechocki, Wawrzyniak-Wydrowska, 2016 etc.).
- The nomenclature of taxa is given according to MolluscaBase: https://www.molluscabase.org/.
- All collected materials are stored in the collection of the first author.
