Description
The acari are very important pests to various agricultural crops and fruit trees. And many predacious mites on them are used as a biological control tool. The plant parasitic mites are spider mites, tarsonemid mites and phytoseiid mites are predators on them. Data on the mites are scattered in Korea at present. So, It is necessary to collect scattered data on mites and to make useful database of agricultural acari. The authors treated 98 species of agriculturally important acari: 7 species of Tenuipalpidae, 1 species of Tuckerellidae, 38 species of Tetranychidae, 12 species of Tarsonemidae, and 40 species of Phytoseiidae. Factural databases are constructed by three criteria: Keys to the species, genera, and families; to localities; to hosts. 1. Among agricultural mites in Korea, 46 species of spider mites 12 species of tarsonemid mites and 40 species of phytoseiid mites are collected. Investigation on their habitats, hosts or diets were carried out. 2. General morphology, method of investigation, taxonomic lists and ecology are arranged as introduction in the database. 3. Description of 98 species, geographical distribution, pictural images of mites were input into the database. 4. Board for users was povided to suggest oppinion of improving this database
