Description

The Occurrence Dataset for Plant Species in Pakhibitan, Ecopark, Newtown, North 24 Parganas, West Bengal, India, 2019 is published by Nature Mates-Nature Club The study area covers an area of about 3 acres and consists of different types of habitat like grassland, forest land and wetland. Marshland of Pakhibitan is mostly covered with elephant grass (Typha sp.) surrounded by a forested patch. In the summer (April-May), the maximum temperature of the area reaches around 41°C. During the winter (December-February), the temperature drops to 9°C while the average rainfall is 1836.5 mm per year. The soil type is alluvial because it is located in the Indo-Gangetic plain. This dataset includes all the plants recorded in the year 2019 . All the species are identified up to the species or genus level. A total of 127 plant species are recorded belonging to 49 families and 28 orders.

Purpose

This dataset is a part of a long term project under the WBHIDCO with a purpose to support urban biodiversity, conserving the natural landmass of New Town along with the conservation of all species diversity. It can also provide a scope for a comparative study on the effect of increasing urbanization on the species diversity.
