The project aims to identify data holders from Uganda engaged in active monitoring and management of plant biodiversity data and train them in the use of data publishing tools.
More than 80,000 data records related to Afroalpine plant species, plants in protected reserves, invasive species, plants of economic value, endemic and medicinal plants will be published. Access to published data will help in the development of management interventions and conservation strategies for the plants.
Project Progress
31 data holders working with biodiversity data management and data monitoring have been identified in various institutions in Uganda.
A capacity enhancement workshop focusing on data and data paper publishing has been organized and was attended by 18 Ugandan data holders.
The project mapped data holders, targeting mainly curators at herberia, scientists in universities including graduate students as well as biodiversity management and policy relevant institutions. The identified data older were invited for a five day residential training. The training was aimed at equipping the data holders with practical skills and tools for data and data paper publishing. 18 attended the training. The participants acquired practicl skills in data and data paper publishing. One participant completed the online seminar series conducted by GBIF.
Work is being done to activate an IPT for Uganda thus more data can be published. One dataset has been published throug the GBIF portal.
