Widely distributed in both the sub-Antarctic and Antarctic AOI, with numerous records from Patagonia, Tierra del Fuego, South Sandwich Islands, SE Weddell Sea, Larazev Sea, Prydz Bay, Lützow-Holm Bay, Terre Adélie (Ward 1985; Komai et al. 1996; Nye et al. 2013; Basher & Costello 2014); benthic, 450–2402 m. The extralimital record off Antofagasta (northern Chile) by Guzmán & Quiroga (2005) is considered dubious by Nye et al. (2013).
