Korzhavina O, Ivanenko V (2020). Copepod crustaceans identified by Prof. Arthur G. Humes. Version 1.10. Lomonosov Moscow State University. Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/nhndwi accessed via GBIF.org on 2024-11-08.Description
The dataset includes information on 2,917 slides of symbiotic and free-living copepods from 892 samples that were collected at 331 localities, prepared and identified by the eminent taxonomist Prof. A.G. Humes (1916–1999, https://academic.oup.com/jcb/article/21/1/1/2679845).
The glass and wooden slides include copepods representing six orders, 46 families, 152 genera, and 425 species. The hosts of symbiotic copepods belong to seven phyla, 16 classes, 49 orders, 118 families, 240 genera and 323 species. The copepods were collected mainly during expeditions of A.G. Humes to the West Africa (1954-1955), Caribbeans (1959-1960, 1962), Madagascar (1960, 1963-1964, 1967), Mauritius (1964), the southeastern Pacific Ocean on the R/V Abrunn (1965-1966), Eniwetok Atoll (1969), New Caledonia (1971-1972), the Pacific Ocean on the R/V Alpha Helix (1975), Panama (1981), Moorea (1982), and the Great Barrier Reef (1982) as well as several deep-sea research cruises.
Clarification! The database doesn't include information on type and other specimens of copepods described and identified by A.G. Humes and coauthors and deposited in the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History (Washington DC), the Muséum national d'histoire naturelle (Paris), and Naturalis (Leiden).
