The Dutch nature conservation society, Natuurmonumenten, was established in 1905. It buys and maintains natural areas in the Netherlands. In 2010, the society maintained 355 areas, which together covered 102,951 ha and 470 national cultural heritage sites. Furthermore, the society owns 1,700 buildings, of which 250 are either a provincial or national cultural heritage site.
