This survey was the first systematic survey of otter distribution in Ireland.

Quality Control
Surveys carried out by PJ & LL Chapman. Data entered into MS Access database by Dr Jane Preston. Resurvey of sites means that the dataset includes false positives, however this is only a problem when undertaking a statistical analysis of the dataset. Data is of a high quality.Method steps
- Full details of the data capture methodology is available in NPWS IWM No. 23. Searches for otter signs were made at 2,373 pre-selected sites across the country.
