Biology. A female specimen (Makinotsunakogawa-rindo, Fujino-machi, Tsukui-gun, Kanagawa Pref., 12. vii. 2002) is pinned with a female araneid spider, Neoscona mellotteei (Simon, 1895). Another female (Seihara, Uenohara-machi, Yamanashi Pref., 21. ix. 1993) is pinned with a female thomisid spider, Oxytate striatipes L. Koch, 1878.
description
(Fig. 6) Dipogon (Deuteragenia) macrostigmatus Ishikawa, 1959: 254, ♀ (holotype, ♀, Japan, Tokyo, Okutama, Itsukaichi-Hikawa, 28. vii. 1956 (S. Uéno) [NSMT], examined).
description
Redescription. (Measurements of the holotype are given in parentheses.) FEMALE. Length: body 5.1 – 7.7 (5.3) mm; fore wing 4.4 – 6.6 (4.8) mm. Head and mesosoma matte; metasoma subpolished. Body and legs black (Fig. 6 C). Apical third of mandible yellowish- to bright-brown (Fig. 6 A). Following more or less ferruginous: antenna (at least several apical flagellomeres anteroventrally), palpi, lateral and posterior margins of pronotum and metasomal terga, tegula (Fig. 6 D), posterior margins of sterna and apices of all tarsomeres I – IV. Fore wing fasciae distinct (Fig. 6 E); inner fascia broad; wing tip weakly infuscate. Body covered with short pubescence rather dense on mesepisternum, mesosternum, propodeum posterolaterally and mid and hind coxae, mostly white but brown on upper frons, vertex, dorsa of pro-, meso- and metanota and metasomal terga laterally. Vertex and mesonotum with a few long dark-brown setae; clypeus preapically and mandible with long brown bristles arising from large pores; metasomal sterna and tergum V with sparse brown bristles, those on sterna becoming longer posteriorly; tergum VI with both short yellowish-brown bristles and long, dark brown bristles densely. Frons, vertex, dorsum of pronotum, mesepisternum and lower metapleuron finely shagreened. Mesoscutum densely punctate and strongly alutaceous; scutellum densely punctate and weakly alutaceous; metanotum finely and densely punctate. Clypeus subpolished and alutaceous with a few large setiferous pores preapically. Side of metanotum irregularly striate. Upper metapleuron distinctly striate, interspaces of striae punctate. Propodeum minutely reticulo-rugulose. Head width 1.1 – 1.2 (1.1) × length. Vertex in frontal view moderately convex (Fig. 6 A). Inner orbits slightly convergent above, subparallel below. UID: MID: LID = 6.9 – 7.6 (7.1): 10: 9.3 – 9.9 (9.4). Frons in profile gently convex, scarcely protruding anteriorly exceeding level of clypeus (Fig. 6 F); frontal line impressed only below. MID 0.57 – 0.61 (0.59) × head width. Gena width in profile 0.6 – 0.7 (0.6) × eye width (Fig. 6 F). Ocellar triangle acute-angled (Fig. 6 B), slightly raised. POL: OOL = 1: 0.83 – 1.2 (0.83). Clypeus as broad as LID (Fig. 6 A), its width 2.4 – 2.5 (2.5) × length, convex medially, depressed laterally; apicolateral corner broadly rounded; apical rim slightly depressed, finely alutaceous and matte, not set off from main surface; apical margin feebly convex. Malar space very short and linear. Antenna (Fig. 6 C): flagellomere I length 1.3 – 1.5 (1.4) × flagellomere II length, 5.6 – 6.5 (6.3) × its width, 0.92 – 1.1 (1.0) × UID. Pronotum feebly depressed near posterior margin (Fig. 6 D), latter being arcuate; anterior declivity not differentiated from dorsum; shoulder distinctly bulging. Posterolateral margin of mesoscutum impunctate and polished. Discs of scutellum and metanotum rather flattened, barely protruding above level of mesoscutum (Fig. 6 F). Metapostnotum length 0.1 – 0.2 (0.2) × metanotum length at midline. Propodeum length 1.0 – 1.1 (1.1) × width, gently convex in profile (Fig. 6 F) without definite median groove. Mid tibia with a few minute spines laterally. Hind tibia almost devoid of spines. Longer spur of hind tibia 0.4 – 0.5 (0.4) × hind tarsomere I length. Tarsomeres I – IV very thin; tarsomere V enlarged, hind tarsomere V length 1.6 – 1.9 (1.9) × hind tarsomere IV length, its width 1.3 – 1.4 (1.4) × hind tarsomere IV width. Tarsal claws with small acute tooth preapically. Fore wing shown in Fig. 6 E. Pterostigma length 1.7 – 2.2 (2.0) × SMC 2 length, its width 0.76 – 0.97 (0.88) × SMC 2 width. SMC 2 length 0.60 – 0.74 (071) × width, narrowed on vein Rs by 0.69 – 0.84 (0.75) × its own length on vein M, receiving crossvein 1 m-cu at basal 0.40 – 0.48 (0.42). SMC 3 length 1.1 – 1.4 (1.2) × width, 0.93 – 1.3 (1.1) × SMC 2 length on vein M, 0.67 – 0.95 (0.83) × SMC 2 length on vein Rs, narrowed on vein Rs by 0.47 – 0.65 (0.58) × its own length on vein M, receiving crossvein 2 m-cu at basal 0.11 – 0.30 (0.23). Crossvein 2 rs-m strongly curved posteriorly. Crossvein 3 rs-m arcuate or almost elbowed. Hind wing crossvein cu-a confluent with vein A, very long and sinuate. Metasomal tergum I with long petiole (Fig. 6 G). Tergum II width 0.89 – 1.0 (0.89) × head width. MALE. Unknown.
diagnosis
Diagnosis. The female differs from those of other species by having the frons shagreened and matte (Fig. 6 A); the gena in dorsal view strongly receding (Fig. 5 B); and the antenna very thin and long (Fig. 5 C), with flagellomere I length 5.6 – 6.5 × width. MALE. Unknown.
