Type data: This species was described based on an unknown number of females collected in an undetermined locality in Colombia. A syntype is currently housed at OUMNH and is here designated the lectotype. The specimen has the following data label: [Colum Goud [handwritten] \ [black-rimmed label] Holotype [printed] Centris festiva Sm ♀ [handwritten] J. S. Moure [printed] 1957 [handwritten] \ festiva. S. Col. [handwritten] \ Named as Centris festiva Smith 1854 in W. W. Saunders colln. OX. UNI. MUS. NAT. HIST. (OUMNH). [printed]. Type locality: Colombia. Comments: The type locality cannot be further narrowed down than to Colombia, but probably it was collected in the Andes. As Centris insignis (= C. laticincta), the type specimen of this species was collected by Justin Gaud.
