Data4Nature membership, governance and aligned initiatives

Annex 1 to the Data4Nature Coalition statement

While membership of the Data4Nature Coalition is restricted to providers of development finance and ODA donors, any institution may be listed as a supporter provided that they commit to one or more of the activities outlined in the coalition statement, namely facilitation, promotion or funding of the Data4Nature objectives.

The GBIF Secretariat will act as coordinator of the Data4Nature Coalition. Pending further discussion, a Steering Committee including relevant stakeholders may be established to provide light-touch governance and oversight of the Coalition’s activities including reporting of progress, acceptance of members/supporters and allocation of funds committed by members or supporters.

Commitments made under the Data4Nature Coalition encourage a set of implementation activities related to data sharing that support delivery of a range of aligned commitments and objectives. International Commitments

UN Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD)

All businesses (public and private, large, medium and small) assess and report on their dependencies and impacts on biodiversity, from local to global, and progressively reduce negative impacts, by at least half and increase positive impacts, reducing biodiversity-related risks to businesses and moving towards the full sustainability of extraction and production practices, sourcing and supply chains, and use and disposal.

Welcomes the Data4Nature initiative and consequently invites Parties, non-Parties, funding agencies, development banks and other relevant stakeholders to take biodiversity into account when developing environmental and social impact assessments and share the biodiversity data from the assessments through the Global Biodiversity Information Facility.

  • Data generated and shared through the Data4Nature initiative will support nature-based solutions relating both to climate change adaptation and mitigation incorporated in the Paris and Glasgow climate change agreements.
