This resource presents the checklist of the species from the order Opiliones (Arachnida) collected in the Caribbean region of Colombia, founded during the revision of entomological collections in Colombia. In this checklist nine families, 18 genera and 30 species are reported. This information was gathered from the main catalogs related to the group of the most recent literature. References of all original descriptions and taxonomy revision documents are also included in the bibliography.Purpose
This checklist has as main purpose to increase the current state of knowledge of the diversity of Opiliones in the Caribbean region where it is found protected areas, strategic ecosystems as tropical dry forest and landscapes with a high connectivity and ecological integrity. This information will be useful to further investigation on the conservation of those ecosystems. Also, with this checklist the information of Opiliones in biological collection, in national and regional level, will be available through GBIF, where this information can be consulted for taking actions to protect those important ecosystems.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
This checklist includes the species of Opiliones (Arthropoda: Arachnida) that have been registered for the Colombian caribbean coast territory according to the literature.Sampling
Information on the names, authors and references of the species of Opiliones (Arthropoda: Arachnida) that have been recorded for the Colombian caribbean coast territory from the literature was compiled. The list was obtained from Kury (2003) and then compared with Kury et al. (2021) and later published works not included in those catalogues. The names were verified in the original descriptions, as well as in the catalogs mentioned here, as well as recent nomenclature works.Quality Control
The taxonomic quality of the checklist is ensured by having experts confirming the identification of the species. The data quality is ensured with the revision performed by the BID Regional Project Support Team, where all critical errors are pointed and fixed.Method steps
- The survey of the species for the study area was made from the catalog of Kury (2003). This initial list was compared and complemented with Kury's online catalog (2021). Families identification was made following the key proposed by Kury & Pinto Darocha (2002).
- The spelling and authorship of each name was verified in the aforementioned catalogs and in the original descriptions.
- The distribution of the species in the country, by department, was compiled through the consultation of all the articles in which each species is cited for Colombia.
- Bibliographic references were compiled from original descriptions, new records, or nomenclature acts.
- The information was complimented with revision to national collections.
