Building on SiB Colombia’s earlier success in developing stylish and substantive videos, this collaboration with GBIF Spain aims to produce new learning and promotional resources that serve to bridge one of the linguistic gaps in the GBIF network. The creation of a dedicated toolkit and informational video, the project will allow users to learn, share and take advantage of resources at a greater level.
Project Progress
Following the reveal of the main video at the GBIF Board Meeting in Helsinki in 2017, the project has achieved a visually captivating and useful resource that will appeal to a broader audience within the GBIF network and the Ibero-american community.
A promotional animated video serves as the centrepiece, highlighting the importance of sharing data through GBIF in simple language that increases the context and relevance for Spanish-speaking communities. An accompanying toolkit has also been achieved which includes movie scripts, graphics, interview formats and multimedia reference materials, will assist other nodes and communities to make videos for their own communities. Designed to be utlised by all as a free resource, the toolkit is available through this link.
Through collaboration in the GBIF network, four video capsules were produced interviewing GBIF users in Colombia and Spain. The topics handled were:
- Advantages and experiences in systematization of biological collections with Elysia
- Publication process through SiB Colombia
- Experiences creating data papers from SiB Colombia partners
- Use of data: experiences of downloading and using data published through GBIF.es and GBIF.org.
With the deliverables of the project realised, the team are now focusing on delivering two communication reports to measure the impact of the resources shared within the network. This information will help to give important feedback for the network as a whole and similar projects in the future.
