discussion
Remarks. The description in Van Rompu et al. (1991 a), was based on a single specimen displaying a deformed pharyngeal bulb with the macroplacoids and microplacoid situated towards the anterior of the bulb. Such a description had been thought to indicate the species ‘ antarcticus ’ but was subsequently recognised as either pre-simplex form or a mounting anomaly (Dastych 1991). The presence of a microplacoid indicates this was not Acutuncus antarcticus but was probably a Hypsibius spp. Therefore, the actual presence of Acutuncus antarcticus in Africa needs to be confirmed.
