Chorismus antarcticus (Pfeffer 1887)
Chorismus antarcticus (Pfeffer, 1887)
A circum-Antarctic benthic shelf species (0–915 m), reaching South Georgia, the Falkland Islands and Southern Patagonia (Holthuis 1952; Garth et al. 1967; Ledoyer 1989; Komai et al. 1996), although possibly confused with C. tuberculatus in sub-Antarctic areas. Biological differences were observed between populations from South Georgia and the Weddell Sea (Gorny et al. 1992). A very common species, with a preference for bottoms rich in epifauna (personal observations of the first author). Synonym: Hippolyte romanchei A. Milne-Edwards, 1891 (type locality: Tierra del Fuego).
