distribution
Distribution and habitat. New Ireland: 1, 2. — General distribution: Andaman Sea and Indonesia east to Caroline Islands and New Guinea, north to Yaeyama Islands, south to northern Australia. Found in lagoon and sheltered shoreline reefs, associated with alpheid shrimps, 2 – 15 m depth. Marine.

Status at New Ireland. New record, based on specimens photographed at Lissenung Island by Dietmar Amon on 16 May 2009 and 2 Aug. 2009, and at 5 m depth by Dean Tully on 16 Sept. 2012 (yellow form), and 4 m depth on 22 Sept. 2012 (banded form); a video of a specimen taken in Senta Passage, southeast of New Hanover at 5 – 16 m depth, St. KR 118, in 2014 (identified by Barry C. Russell).
