description
To 11.2 cm (4.4 in) SL (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California). Central Baja California to Chile (Wisner 1976). Larvae reported as far north as the Ensenada area, northern Baja California (Funes-Rodríquez et al. 2011). Depth: surface to mesopelagic (Wisner 1976); depth: 9 – 342 m (30 – 1,122 ft) (Castellanos-Galindo et al. 2006 b). Several deeper records (e. g., 1,370 m (4,494 ft) (Morera et al. 2019) and 2,325 m (7,626 ft) (Personal communication: Scripps Institution of Oceanography Fish Collection, La Jolla, California )) were based on the maximum depth fished by a midwater and bottom trawls and may represent catches shallower than those maximum depths.
