Fungimap (2022). Fungimap. Occurrence dataset https://doi.org/10.15468/6voxzp accessed via GBIF.org on 2024-11-03.Description
This dataset contains observational records of fungi throughout Australia recorded by Fungimap members and casual contributors since 1995, originally with a focus on recording sightings of Fungimap's Target Species (100 macrofungi readily recognisable in the field) published in the book Fungi Down Under, and later expanded to incorporate records for all named fungi. Records are collected by individuals and by groups, of fungi encountered incidentally or during organised forays, and are submitted to the National Australian Fungimap Database (NAFD), managed by Fungimap Inc and stored at the Royal Botanic Gardens Melbourne. Where records are submitted with a photograph, species determinations are made or confirmed by the Fungimap ID Team which includes professional mycologists. Identification may also be supported by further information about the specimen (e.g. spore characteristic information). Species concepts may be indicated by reference to literature. Records considered to have dubious identifications are not supplied to the Atlas of Living Australia but are retained in the NAFD. This dataset includes the species, location, date of observation, habitat, and some occurrence remarks for each record. Further details, images, and collection information can be sought from Fungimap Inc directly. Records have been anonymised to protect contributor's privacy and include here only the Fungimap contributor number. Fungimap is dedicated to improving knowledge and conservation of Australian macrofungi. Our mottos are 'Putting Australian fungi on the map' and 'Community based science in action'. Fungimap publishes books and CD-ROMS about fungi, distributes a newsletter to members three times per year, and holds a Fungimap Conference every two years. New records and images of Australian fungi are always welcome.Purpose
