The paper presents data on the finds of the Daedaleopsis genus species in the Asian part of Russia. Data on the prevalence of xylotrophic fungi of the genus Daedaleopsis in the Asian part of Russia are presented. The database includes information on the distribution of D. confragosa (Bolton) J. Schröt., D. septentrionalis (P. Karst.) Niemelä, D. tricolor (Bull.) Bondartsev & Singer n the vas territory of Russia. This dataset is prepared based on the results of the authors’ research entailing the period from 1978 to 2019. The samples are kept in the herbarium of the Federal State Autonomous Educational Institution of Higher Education “Ural Federal University named after the first President of Russia B. N. Yeltsin” and Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology, the Ural Branch Russian Academy of Sciences. The dataset contains 336 samples (occurrence ID) which were harvested in 17 administrative regions of the Russian Federation. This dataset is an important step towards the exploration of fungi of the genus Daedaleopsis, particularly, their diversity, geographic spread, and substrate preferences in Russia.
The aim of the study: to examine the diffusion of species of the Daedaleopsis genus in Asian part Russia: the Ural, Siberia, the Far East.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
The database includes the information of the diffusion of D. confragosa, D. septentrionalis, D. tricolor on the extensive territory from the Urals in the West to the Pacific ocean in the East. This dataset is prepared based on the results of the authors’ research and provides information on the spread of the Daedaleopsis genus species in 17 regions of the Russian Federation. As a rule, research areas are randomly located, and no regular grid research has been attempted.Sampling
The samples were largely collected with the help of route census technique. The identification of xylotrophic fungi species was made from 1978 to 2019. The collection of basidiocarps, their herborization were carried out according to standard mycological methods. Sampling techniques follow the Mueller et al. protocols (2004). To create a collection, a control redefinition of previously harvested samples was performed based on morphological and anatomical characteristics used in fungi diagnostics.Quality Control
The data were collected and processed by specialists of Ural Federal University (UFU) and Institute of Plant and Animal Ecology (IPAE). The geographical coordinates for the samples were obtained with different accuracy, depending on the way the location of the sample was fixed. The quality of the geographical reference presented in the herbarium was assessed as follows: 1) the coordinate of the finds presented in the collection gave an uncertainty of about 100 meters (for newer finds: 2016-2019, since the coordinates were recorded using the Navigator; 2) the coordinate of the fieldwork location given in the collection gave an uncertainty of about 1000 m (for samples from 1978-2007), since the location was recorded according to physical maps, and then verified using Google map services (https://maps.google.ru/maps).Method steps
- The database consisted of the fungi samples of the Daedaleopsis genus. The dataset contains information about the herbarium samples.
- The database layout was accomplished with the help of Microsoft Excel.
- All samples were linked to the area either by the coordinates indicated on the labels or by a verbal description of the field work site. Verbal descriptions linking as well as the existing coordinates checking were performed via Google map services (https://maps.google.ru/maps).
- The accuracy of coordinates was described according to the instruction presented above (see Section “Quality control”).
- The names of settlements given in Russian were translated into English and entered in the field “locality”. Russian descriptions were fixed in the field “verbatim Locality”.
- If possible, the full date of the sample collection “event Date” was taken from the label. When the accurate information was not available only the year “year” was indicated.
- Taxonomic belonging of the samples was marked in the fields “kingdom”, “phylum”, “class”, “family”, “genus”, “scientific Name”. The factual information on the relevance of the species’ name was checked in Index Fungorum (http://www.indexfungorum.org/).
- The substrate association of the samples was written down in the field “associated Taxa”.
- To obtain additional information about phylogenic research and publications where these samples were mentioned the reference was made in the field “associated Sequences” and “associated References”.
