Gymnadenia conopsea (L.) R.Br. (Common fragrant orchid) is a boreal Eurasian species, one of the most common orchids in northern Europe. On the territory of the Komi Republic, the species is at the northern edge of its range; it is more common in the southern and southwestern areas of the region. It grows in bogs, damp meadows, grassy-sphagnum pine forests, in green moss grass and sphagnum spruce forests, wet grass mixed forests, and alder forests, as well as on limestone, marl, and gypsum outcrops with and without grass cover. G. conopsea is propagated mostly by seeds. The species is a highly specialized entomophylous plant attracting insects, mainly lepidoptera, by the color of corolla, nectar, and pleasant smell. The data set contains data on the distribution of G. conopsea in the Komi Republic, located in the European North-East Russia. In total, 311 localities of G. conopsea have been found within the borders of the Komi Republic, including 198 herbarium specimens and 113 occurrence records. The herbarium specimens are stored in the of Scientific Herbarium of the Institute of Biology Komi Science Centre (SYKO). The dataset includes 311 records. The point set was prepared with data obtained as a result of field studies of the authors and acquired from vascular plant collection of SYKO herbaria. Most of the occurrences’ descriptions included the following fields: "occurrenceID", "institutionCode", "basisOfRecord", "DatasetName", "eventDate", "year", "month", "day", "scientificName", "higherClassification", "kingdom", "phylum", "class", "order", "family", "genus", "specificEpithet", "scientificNameAuthorship", "taxonRank", "identifiedBy", "dateIdentified", "decimalLatitude", "decimalLongitude", "geodeticDatum", "coordinateUncertaintyInMeters", "verbatimCoordinateSystem", "georeferencedBy", "georeferencedDate", "continent", "country", "countryCode", "stateProvince", "county", "verbatimLocality", "language", "license", "collectionCode", "catalogNumber", "recordedBy", "otherCatalogNumbers", "associatedMedia". The work was carried out with the financial support of the project «Herbarium funds of the biological diversity of plants and fungi of the Collection Fund of the Komarov Botanical Institute, Russian Academy of Sciences: modernization, development and networking as a basis for fundamental research and improvement of genetic technologies» (Agreement No. 075-15-2021-1056 dated 09/28/2021).Sampling Description
Study Extent
The study was carried in whole territory of the Komi Republic. The occurrence data were collected from an area of approximately 416.8 thousand square km. The point set was prepared with data obtained as a result of field studies of the authors and data acquired from vascular plant collection of SYKO herbaria.Sampling
For each of the occurrence unit location, topography, geo-referenced was made.Quality Control
Data has been collected, and species identification was made or checked by botanists and florists from the Institute of Biology of Federal Research Centre Komi Science Centre of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences. The taxa names were normalized with help of the GBIF species matching tool (https://www.gbif.org/tools/species-lookup). The dataset was checked for errors and cleaned by methods described by R. Mesibov in A Data Cleaner's Cookbook [Mesibov 2021].Method steps
- The data of long-term field studies of the authors conducted in the Republic of Komi, including in specially protected natural areas, were summarized under the Kirobase – local database supported by authors. When carrying out field work, a route method was used to survey the sites typical for the growth of Gymnadenia conopsea. For all identified locations of the species, geographical coordinates were recorded using Garmin CSX 60 GPS receiver (WGS 84), the number of plants, the area of distribution were estimated, and a brief description of phytocenotic parameters were fixed. The herbarium label data were taken from vascular plants collection of the Institute of Biology of Komi Scientific Centre of the Ural Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences Herbarium (SYKO). The every occurrence record where merged into the local database "Kirobase". The authors prepared occurrence data of every species occurrence record from the territory of the Komi Republic, not previously published in GBIF, with a common xlsx-template based on the occurrence template recommended by the GBIF (https://www.gbif.org/ru/news/82852/new-darwin-corespreadsheet-templates-simplify-data-preparation-and-publishing). Authors were allowed to add Darwin Core terms as additional fields in their xlsx-files. Georeferencing was performed according to the method described in the publication "Guide to best practices for georeferencing" (Chapman, Wieczorek, 2006). Georeference of occurrence record where made with the help of available topomaps to the territory of the Komi Republic. For rough reference used maps with a scale of 1: 200000. More accurate binding was carried out according to the satellite images presented on a publicly accessible Internet resources (https://wego.here.com; https://yandex.ru/maps, etc.). Part of the data obtained by the authors in the field. In this case, the values in the fields “decimalLongitude” and “decimalLatitute” were filled with original GPS coordinates and the “coordinateUncertaintyInMeters” field was set to a single value of 30 meters (means standard error of the GPS receiver). Each record in the occurrence dataset also included a URL leading to the corresponding occurences’ herbarium labels and species images. The species name was given according to “The World Flora Online” (former "The Plant List", accepted via http://www.worldfloraonline.org).

Geographic Coverages
The Komi Republic is located in the European North-East of Russia. Its area is about 416.8 thousand square km. It stretches 785 km from south to north (N59°11' to N68°25') and 695 km from west to east (E45°23' to E66°15'). The territory of the republic consists of two parts. The east part of the Komi Republic is located in the Ural Mountains (the Polar, the Sub-polar and the Northern Ural Mountains) and the other part in the Russian platform (including the Timan range, the Pechora lowland and Mezen-Vychega platform). The territory of the republic covers three natural zones: taiga, forest-tundra, and tundra. Climate of the republic is moderate continental: short and cool summers, long and cold winters with continuous snow cover. In the south part of the republic, climate is softer than that in north part. The sum of daily average temperatures above +10ºC is 1550º; the annual precipitation sum is 550-600 mm. The number of days with temperature above 0º is about 105 days. July is the warmest month with an average temperature +16- 17ºC. December (average temperature -15-17ºC) is the coldest month. Climate is more severe in the north and the north-east parts of the republic. Here, the sum of average daily temperatures above +10ºC is about 800-1000º, the annual precipitation sum is 420-460 mm. The number of days with air temperature above 0º is 70-85 days. The warmest month is July with monthly average temperature +12-13º C, the coldest month is December (average temperature -19- 20ºC).
