Description

This dataset includes benthos sampling observations from the AB202 UNIS course. The samples were collected in April 2024, onboard the Helmer Hansen vessel, along the following stations, Isfjorden (ISK), Kongsfjorden (KB3), seep site outside Magdalenafjorden and Marginal Ice Zone (MIZ). The methods chosen to accomplish this work were benthic trawlling and Van Veen grabs. Following the students sorted and identified all the observed organisms to the lowest taxonomic level possible.

Sampling

Benthic trawl and Van Veen Grabs were the sampling methods used Benthic trawl: duration of approximately 7 minutes Benthos were sorted out and identified Van Veen Grabs: 2 replicates on each of the sites with sieving before sorting Mesh size: 0.5mm

Method steps

After benthic trawling for seven minutes and Van Veen grabs sampling for each station, the students, under the supervision of professors and researchers, sorted and identified all the specimens possible to the smallest taxonomical level possible.
