Records of macrozoobenthos organisms in the Ukrainian part of the Danube delta during 2007-2021

Study Extent

The dataset represents the results of samplings of invertebrates associated with aquatic habitats, made in different water bodies within the Danube River delta (Odesa region, Ukraine) every year from 2007 to 2021.

Sampling

The samples of macrozoobenthos were collected three times a year - spring, summer and autumn. Samples were collected from sandy, silt and silty-sand bottom substrates and representatives of aquatic vegetation. Samples were collected by bottom-grabbers (with a working area of 100 cm2), hand samplers (with a working area of 100 cm2), hydrobiological net, kicking net and bottom dredgers. The upper layer of the bottom sediments (up to 5 cm) was selected for the study. The samples were washed through a sieve with a mesh size of 1 mm2, fixed with a 4% formaldehyde solution and transported to the laboratory to determine the species composition. The database contains mostly finds identified to species or genus. Geographical locations were indicated by GPS-navigator in decimal degrees according to the WGS84 system. The nomenclature follows the GBIF BackBone Taxonomy.

Method steps

1. Conducting regular samplings using the technoque describend in the "Sampling methods" section.
2. Collecting of invertebrates for further identification.
3. Identification of the collected samples to the level of species or higher taxonomic level.
4. Georeferencing.
5. Organising of the dataset according to Darwin Core standards.

The dataset consists of exclusively records of different invertebrates, associated with water habitats.
