Type locality: Azores (41 ° 40 ’ 41 ” N, 29 ° 04 ’ 23 ” W). See: Perrier (1891, 1896 a); A. M. Clark & Downey (1992: 54 – 55). Occurrence: known only from the type material collected in Azores (Perrier 1896 a). Depth: 2,870 m (AZO, Perrier 1896 a). Habitat: soft sediments (muddy sand, Perrier 1896 a). Remarks: A. M. Clark & Downey (1992) believed that this species might represent a juvenile of another Dytaster species. According to our knowledge the question is still pending and the type material of D. intermedius has not been revised to date.
