discussion
Remarks. Previous records on the coast of São Paulo include Ilha Piaçaguera in Cubatão (as “ Santos: E. Piassaguera ”) (Rathbun 1918; Crane 1975), São Sebastião (Luederwaldt 1919 a, 1929), Santos (Luederwaldt 1919 b; Crane 1975; Bezerra 2012), Cananéia (Gerlach 1958), and Ubatuba (Bezerra 2012). This species presents the most extensive distribution towards south than any other American fiddler crab (Crane 1975; Bezerra 2012). This species and M. mordax, are the only two with southwards distribution where mangroves do not grow (Masunari et al. 2020).
