Description

Specimen collection data from the Entomology Collection of the National Museum of Namibia, Windhoek. This will be updated as sections are completed for publication, but currently only includes the order Hemiptera.

Namibia (national entomology collection), but also including specimens from other countries

Sampling

A wide range of field sampling methods employed by a wide range of collectors over the last century; digitization and verification in the funded project phase

Quality Control

Qualified entomologist John Irish reviewed the data, identifications, locations etc., and formatted the dataset; Francois S Becker did final checks regarding DarwinCore field mappings, metadata, data publication.

Method steps

1. Check specimen labels, record verbatim metadata on them (Julia Kanyemba; Kunandjambi Mupurua) 2. Verify and/or check metadata in catalogue book; check discrepancies with labels 3. Identify unidentified material to family level, or lower where possible (Hileni Shivolol Julia Kanyemba; Kunandjambi Mupurua, with help of John Irish) 4. Interpret metadata into various data fields 5. Catalogue uncatalogued material and add data into catalogue book, labels, and database (Excel) 6. Review data for quality, picking up errors in all metadata and identification fields (John Irish) 7. Reformatting data to DarwinCore standards (John Irish) 8. Final checking and publication (John Irish; Francois Becker)
