L. quadrimaculata is a holarctic lentic dragonfly which was observed in PDS (15) where up to 20 individuals were seen to congregate (11 Jul 2016) and breeding was confirmed. This species was considered locally common and well distributed in the Alpine valleys of Piedmont (Boano et al. 2007), a pattern confirmed by the Italian preliminary Atlas (Riservato et al. 2014 c). Territorial males were observed over 2000 m and breeding up to 1890 m in VCO, Maritime Alps (province of Cuneo, Piedmont) and Mont Avic (Val d’Aosta) Natural Parks (Clemente et al. 2011; Pompilio 2012; Bionda et al. 2013; Pettavino 2015; Sindaco et al. 2008); thus, further surveys would be needed to ascertain its occurrence at higher altitudes in VGNP.
