Host range. The species may parasitise and dwell in nests of a wide range of small mammal hosts (Zemskaya, 1973; Whitaker & Wilson, 1974; Goncharova et al., 1991; Whitaker et al., 2007). No principal hosts can be identified.

Remarks. Re-description of Hg. liponyssoides was published by Keegan (1951).
distribution
Distribution. Holarctic (Williams et al., 1978). Haemogamasus liponyssoides has been recorded from different parts of Siberia and the Russian Far East. It appears that this species is distributed throughout Asiatic Russia, including the extreme north latitudes (Wrangel Island and the lower course of the Kolhyma River; see Nikulina, 2004).
materials_examined
Type locality. USA, “ Ames, Iowa ” (collecting site of the lectotype; see Williams et al., 1978). Type specimens. USNM (No. 948). The type specimens include the lectotype and two paralectotypes (Williams et al., 1978). Type host. The Eastern mole, Scalops argentatus Audobon & Bachman, 1842 = Scalopus aquaticus (L., 1758).
