discussion
Remarks: This is one of the most common species of Lanceola, relatively widespread, occurring in all the world’s oceans except the Mediterranean Sea. It seems to prefer near-surface layers but descends to depths exceeding 3000 m, but more often to depths of 1000 – 2000 m (Vinogradov et al. 1982 / 96). The only previous Southern Ocean record is by Woltereck (1927), from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector (64 ° 35 ’ S 85 ° 25 ’ E), from 400 – 0 m. Thus, the above are new records for the Antarctic Zone of the Southwest Atlantic Sector with an additional record from the Eastern Indian Ocean Sector.
