Mission
FasoBIF aims to promote, coordinate, and implement the compilation of standardized digital primary data on Burkina Faso’s biodiversity in a framework that respects intellectual property rights. FasoBIF provides an open data infrastructure. It allows open access to primary biodiversity data while acknowledging the key role and work of data publishers.
Funding
FasoBIF is mainly funded by its members and stakeholder organizations.
The Programme National de Gestion de l’Information sur le Milieu network is funded through projects and programmes under the Secrétariat Permanent du Conseil National pour l’Environnement et le Développement Durable.
History
In 1993, Burkina Faso set up the Programme National de Gestion de l’Information sur le Milieu (PNGIM), which brings together different actors working with the management of natural resources in a network of partnership.
In order to ensure cooperation and build on available resources, FasoBIF was founded as a thematic subsection of the PNGIM.
Structure
The node is a permanent executive structure linked to the Conseil National pour l’Environnement et le Développement Durable (SP/CONEDD) and the Ministère de l’Environnement et du Développement Durable.
FasoBIF is a nationally focused structure that supports national objectives regarding sustainable development and the well being of populations. The Division du Développement des Compétences, de l’Information et du Monitoring en Environnement (DCIME), a department of SP/CONEDD, is responsible for the management of environmental information, the coordination of PNGIM network, and the coordination of FasoBIF.
