Floral Survey of Ahmedabad Metro Phase II

Study Extent

Using a stratified sample approach, the floristic inventory was completed, covering the diversity of habitats on both sides of the Metro Rail track. A 250-meter transect was planned out on both sides of the Metro Rail Project to encompass all adjacent habitats, including wetlands, agricultural lands, woods, grasslands, and wastelands. All habitat variety was discovered with the assistance of the GEER Foundation's RS-GIS team.

Sampling

With the assistance of the RS-GIS unit of the GEER Foundation, all habitat diversity was located, and a detailed inventory of each habitat was completed. Plant species were grouped according to their habits, such as trees, shrubs, climbers, herbs, grasses, etc.

Method steps

1. The floristic inventory was carried out through stratified sampling manner that was cover all habitat diversity found on both sides of the Metro Rail track. On both sides of the Metro Rail Project, a transect with a length of 250m laid in such way that was cover all habitats such as wetlands, agricultural lands, forests, grasslands, wastelands etc. nearby the project area. All habitat diversity had find out with the help of RS-GIS unit of GEER Foundation and an inventory of each habitat was carried out thoroughly and all plant Species categorized as per habit of plants such as tree, shrub, climber, herbs, grasses etc.

There are 284 vascular plant species in the plant checklist data. The constituents of this flora are further divided into 60 families and 203 genera.

Floristic Survey was carried out in the Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar cities along the metro rail track. Ahmedabad and Gandhinagar are located on the bank of the River Sabarmati in the northern part of Gujarat and western part of India. Gandhinagar is the state capital city of Gujarat State of India. It lies on the west bank of the Sabarmati River. Ahmedabad is largest city and former capital of Gujarat State. It is also sixth largest city of India and is situated 30 km away from the capital city Gandhinagar. The study area falls under semi-arid biogeographic zone and 4B Gujarat-Rajwara biotic provinces of India.
