First out of three webinars on Georeferencing and related issues for the Spanish-speaking community November 2020.

Webinar 1: Planning a Georeferencing Project

The location data accompanying the biodiversity records is essential to allow the use of such records in research and decision-making. To increase potential uses, it is imperative to have good georeferences for the data. Georeferencing can be a time-consuming and resource-intensive process, so georeferencing projects at different scales can be very useful if carried out efficiently. But... where to start? In this webinar we will provide guidelines on the following topics to consider when planning a georeferencing project:

a. How to build an efficient workflow for a georeferencing project: local, national and regional projects.

  1. Characterization of the problem. Data to georeference, what do I have and what would I like to have. Prioritization.
  2. Methods to use. How to choose the best methods.
  3. Resources: equipment and basic tools.
  4. Resources: staff and their training.
  5. How to evaluate a georeferencing project. Metrics.

b. How to increase the impact of georeferencing projects.

The second hour of the seminar will be used as a discussion and consultation session.

This series is a part of the project:
