Oka State Nature Biosphere Reserve

Description

Scientific studies of the reserve include various groups of animals and plants. The Reserve's flora is represented by 870 species of higher plants, over 600 species of mushrooms, 150 lichens and 200 moss species, many of which are rare and endangered. Forests, meadows and water reservoirs of the Reserve are inhabited by 60 mammal species, 262 bird species, 6 reptile species, 11 species of amphibians, and 39 fish species. The researchers of the reserve identified 141 species of cicadas, more than 300 species of bugs, 43 species of dragonflies, 550 species of butterflies, 394 dipterans, about 1,300 species of beetles. About 70 years the Reserve's Museum of Nature has welcomed visitors. Its exposition shows the diversity and richness of Meshchera's wildlife.
