discussion
Remarks. Autolytus varians was first described as A. ornatus, but the name was changed since Stephanosyllis ornata Verrill, 1873, was found to be congeneric. The description was based on female stolons, with 3 chaetigers in region a, and a " possible " male was also briefly described. The types that are available do not fit the original description. YPM 24219 is a stock with developing stolons, YPM 24223 is a male stolon. As the types can not be safely determined, and as the described stolons can be of several possible species, A. varians is considered as nomen dubium.
