The AllSeaBio database was used by NIWA (and its predecessor - New Zealand Oceanographic Institute (NZOI)) to store information about marine species caught during research operations, as well as museum specimens held at the New Zealand National Invertebrate Collection (NIC).
AllSeaBio was retired in 2005 and replaced by the Biods database (for research catch data) and the Specify database for NIC museum specimens.

The scientific names have been mapped to the World Register of Marine Species (WoRMS), using the online taxon match tool. All sampling locations have been plotted on a map to perform a visual check. The most important check would be to see if all sampling locations are (1) in the marine and/or brackish environment and (2) within the described sampling area.Method steps
- Data were exported from the original AllSeaBio database (MS Acess), and converted to Darwin Core formatted files.
