Occurrence of Bird species from Tosso- Magaji of Taraba State, North-east Nigeria

Study Extent

This dataset was collected in forest patches in Tosso community of Taraba State, Nigeria. The survey lasted from 04th of May 2019 to 08th of May 2019. The habitat is low-land forest interspersed by rock formations and small seasonal streams. The elevation of the area is between 290 - 388m above sea level and the average rainfall is about 2500 mm/annum.

Sampling

Point count and line transect were used to collect the data.

Quality Control

Individual species were carefully handled and identified to species level before being added to the database. Data collected were checked for errors.

Method steps

1. Point counts were undertaken with birds recorded by sight and sound for 10 minutes at each point. Nine points were generated using QGIS within the Magaji section of the Tosso Forest and a line transect was ran between points. Bird survey were carried out between 7am and 11am. Birds were identified to species level using morphological characteristics. The data were formatted according to the Darwin Core Standard before publishing through the IPT at the national Museums of Kenya.
