Department of Forests (DoF)

Description

The Department of Forests (DoF) manages the Vanuatu National Herbarium (PVNH). The plant collection (about 15 000 specimens) are stored in a special room managed by the curator M. Chanel SAM and his colleague M. Philemon ALA. Both, with different students involved in the digitization process of the herbarium, are in charge of the local database called 'Vanuaflora'. It is an occurrences database. It is also available online but the dataset cannot be downloaded. However, the Department of Forests also leads National Forestry Inventory and different plants inventories in the protected areas of the country, so most of the datasets about flora are stored in this department.
