Diagnosis. Distinguished from other Emesis by thicker, more robust bodies, larger hindwings comparatively to forewings and characteristic rustic color of the wings lacking pale bands (Fig. 2 b). In DNA, a combination of the following base pairs is diagnostic: nuclear genome: cne 3461.1.14: T 2709 C, cne 1411.6.4: A 2699 C, cne 1086.2.2: A 384 G, cne 123.6.3: T 427 C, cne 3461.1.14: T 2338 C; COI barcode region: A 46 T, T 55 A, T 190 A, T 421 C, T 592 A, and A 637 T. Derivation of the name. The name is a feminine noun in the nominative singular. It is formed from the type species name. Species included: Papilio mandana Cramer, [1780], Emesis furor Butler & Druce, 1872, and Emesis russula Stichel, 1910. Parent taxon: Genus Emesis Fabricius, 1807.
