This dataset contains occurrence data on Fallopia japonica on river dikes along the Zeeschelde and its tributaries the Rupel and Durme (Belgium). The occurrence data is extracted from a more exhaustive (GIS layer) dataset, namely the vegetation map of the river dikes.Purpose
This dataset will be used for IAS management of Fallopia japonica on dikes near the River Durme, Rupel and Beneden Zeeschelde.
Sampling Description
Study Extent
A vegetation map is made for dikes of the river Zeeschelde, Durme and Rupel. Five transversal zones are distinguished on the dikes: the base, landside, top on landside, top on riverside and riverside. These are mapped as 5 parallel lines with 10 m as the smallest unit. Shorter units of specific importance are mapped as a point. Each mapped unit has homogeneous vegetation and is designated to a certain vegetation type. Besides grassland vegetation types also reed, tall herb vegetation, trees/shrub and Japanese Knotweed (Fallopia japonica) vegetation were distinguished. The mapped units (lines, points) of Japanese Knotweed were extracted of the vegetation map (GIS layer). This dataset only contains the Japanese knotweed occurrences. Based on the GIS layer point occurrences were generated. The data extracted from the transects and point occurrences have a coordinate uncertainty of 10 m. This dataset only contains the Japanese knotweed occurrences.Sampling
