description
Priestfish or Skilfish. To 188 cm (74 in) TL (Zolotov et al. 2014). Sagami Bay, Pacific coast of central Honshu, Japan (Mecklenburg 2003), to south of Commander – Aleutian chain, and southern Gulf of Alaska (Mecklenburg et al. 2002), to Monterey Bay, central California (Eschmeyer and Herald 1983). Depth: juveniles and young adults to about 110 cm (43 in) TL collected near surface, sometimes close to shore (Mecklenburg et al. 2002); adults close to bottom; depth: 200 – 1,047 m (656 – 3,438 ft), usually far from shore (min.: Mecklenburg et al. 2002; max.: Zolotov et al. 2014).
