Distribution: It is a common species in the area, previously recorded in the Argentinean shelf (Riemann-Zürneck 1980), Straits of Magellan (Chile), Drake Passage and Antarctic Peninsula (McMurrich 1893; Dunn 1983), and near the Burdwood bank (Dunn 1983). It was also recorded by Studer (1879) northwest of Kerguelen (48 º 30 ’ S, 69 º 40 ’ E, 219 m), by Carlgren (1938) in False Bay (34 º 15 ’ S, 17 º 57 ’ E, 91 m) and Agulhas Bank (35 ºS, 20 ’ E, 73 – 77 m). This is the first record in the MPA Namuncurá I.
